Emerald Ash Borer
When Emerald Ash Borer was first found in Omaha in 2016, we had nearly 15,000 Ash trees on Public Property to be removed.
A removal plan was created to remove all these ash trees on Public Property over a ten-year period.
As of January 1, 2024, was have removed over 9,000 of the 15,000 Ash trees on our list.
Nearly 2,000 of the remaining Ash trees on the city right of ways are being treated by homeowners, leaving just 4,000 left on our list to remove. The Park’s department is hopeful that the remining Ash trees will removed in our original ten-year plan.
Homeowners with Untreated Ash Trees on their property are encouraged to remove them before they become infested with Emerald Ash Borer and die. Dead trees are dangerous to remove and the cost of the removal will increase dramatically once the trees are dead.
